Welcome to my shop. Let me cut your mop. The name is Kevin Barber. I hope you will feel free to read my thoughts on pretty well anything going on in the world today - inside and outside my head. So pal, how do you like it?

pity the boy mouses
I was a bit concerened with the excess of "empowerment" being foisted upon very young girls such as my daughters in advertising and cartoons today. It might be an oversensitivity - but when I was having the kind of heart-to-heart a dad has with a 5 year old, I was explaining why I had to try so hard to exterminate the mice that are running wild in this century home. With all the serious reason she could muster, young Evelyn looked up at me and asked if we could just kill the boy mice..not the girls..I thought about parental responsibility in the mouse world - and gently replied that yes, I would be happy to start by killing just the boys. Mind you, if I had a son - and he said the same thing, I'd have him in therapy.

Friend or Foe - TV I mean.
Always loved the set
sit and watch the set
but something went wrong
along the way
and the hope of potential
got tarted up
and dummied down
put aside
used as a tool
like a giand Spanish trawler
catching the lowest common denomenator
nets full of fools
But I still watch
as do my kids
the set has grown up
and the good
and the bad
the options and the complexity
the flash and the status
is us.

A little thing
It was just a little thing
Not much at all
Hardly even noticed
Almost never saw
The tiny little thing
That stood out like a light
Sending the message
That things will be alright
Good night mom
Goodnight
Not much at all
Hardly even noticed
Almost never saw
The tiny little thing
That stood out like a light
Sending the message
That things will be alright
Good night mom
Goodnight

Dark days
Days short and Nights long
Barren trees and the wind grows strong
moaning tales of the forlorne
with the winter due
in a time not long
the winter surely due
Barren trees and the wind grows strong
moaning tales of the forlorne
with the winter due
in a time not long
the winter surely due

November Roses
There are two roses
Growing in my yard
Out front in the sunshine
When some days there are none
But every year it seems
Two make a stab
At being born so late
And Shining for us all
In November
My roses
Remind me
Growing in my yard
Out front in the sunshine
When some days there are none
But every year it seems
Two make a stab
At being born so late
And Shining for us all
In November
My roses
Remind me
